I’m so happy that you’re here! And I imagine you didn’t click on the about page for your health so let me get right to it:
What is the Notable Woman, exactly?
The Notable Woman is a podcast, live show, online community, and written articles for women who are transforming the world. The podcast is me interviewing inspiring women whose stories will excite and delight you while connecting you to your power within. In addition to interviews, there are also guest expert talks selected to help you own your unique power as a Notable Woman.
Who hangs out here?
Notable Women are creative, original thinkers who take the reins of life and kick some ass. They are full of intellectual curiosity, they are strong and capable leaders, and they want to make the world a better place through their work, community service, and family. But they also want to feel welcomed as women. Notable Women don’t need to lead like men to be leaders. And furthermore, they want to both take care of themselves by living healthy lives AND they want to collaborate with women leaders, knowing that collaboration and community will bring everyone forward together. Through connectedness, Notable Women find friends, take chances, fail forward, and change the world for the better.
Where should I start?
Your options are not infinite but nearly so! You could listen to the podcast, watch the live show, or go check out the online community, The Society of Notable Women. Or, you could pick a topic and dive into one area, specifically. I didn’t set out to have themes, but instead just talked to women who interested me. Over time, I realized those conversations landed in specific areas and organized them as such: advocacy, books, business, creativity, momming, and self-care.
Why did you start The Notable Woman?
Great question! It’s a little hard for me to pin down, as it’s an idea that’s evolved over time. I think perhaps one of the biggest reasons is that I was tired of women I knew not accepting compliments, or not telling me about whatever awesome thing they had going on, or constantly running themselves through the ringer because they weren’t 100 lbs or didn’t have kids or had too many kids or had a job and left their kids or stayed at home and didn’t have a job…. and oh my gosh, can’t women just exist!?!?! And then I realized more than anything, women are allowed. Allowed to exist. To take up space. To breathe, to love, to laugh, to talk, to yell, to scream, to curse and more. Women are notable, just as they are, and they need a space that okays that for them if they’re ever going to go out and bust down this patriarchal society. So this is that space.
What do you envision the Notable Woman doing or being?
I believe that our capacity as women grows through our conversation and community with each other. Our conversation must be shared because it heals the speaker through the telling, and through the hearing, heals the world. As we hear the stories of our community, we connect, and through our connectedness, we see that all humanity is interconnected, and what happens to one happens to all. As conversation leads to connectedness, that connectedness leads us to act, allowing us to be a catalyst for good in the world. (Deep, right? I’m fun, but not fluffy.)
Who are you?
Ah, yes, another great question! I’m Cristin Downs, and The Notable Woman is my passion project. I am a creative producer and theatrical thinker. I’m an activator and technician, a storyteller and truth speaker, a connector and bridge builder. I have an aversion to bullshit, am incredibly transparent and authentic, and have absolutely zero poker face. I believe we are not judged by what we say or think but by what we do, and I am energized by possibility. There is nothing I am more vehement about than the role of women in realizing the new world order. On a less intense note, I’m a bookworm (mysteries and YA are my faves), newsie, pizza / wine / ice cream / brunch lover, budding comedian, and former theatre professional with a decade + in the wings. Mama to a tiny toddler mischief maker and pet menagerie, I hold down the fort in NYC with my actor hubby Michael Moreno. (Interested in having me speak? Check out my speaker one sheet here.)
